Renegade Best Selling Author Reveals How To Break All The Rules And STILL Send Your Book Soaring Up The Charts While Everyone Else Scratches Their Heads And Wonders How YOU Did It!
From: the desk of James "Jim" McMullen
~Written from the swamps of the Everglades~
Dear Writer,
Imagine this plotline. A Vietnam War Veteran moves to the Everglades. His goal – to pursue the Florida Panther.
Along the way he finds himself and learns to live in harmony with nature.
Does that sound like the sort of book publishers are chomping at the bits over? Can you picture a long line of publishing houses launching a bidding war to sign the author? If you answered, no, then you're right.
Partially, anyway.
Here's the real kicker.
That plot outline, the one you just read, was the premise behind my # 16 NY Times Best Selling Book, Cry Of The Panther .
In "Cry" I tossed the rulebook in the trash can. I gave up on character charts, huge plot outlines, theme direction, big "dictionary" words, and all the other "garbage" most How To Write A Book gurus shove down our throats.

You See, I Bought Into All The Lies
Of What It Took To Write A Hit Book
Like you, I've been through the ringer before. I've bought all those "write a hit book" books. I took the classes in school. Heck, I even went out and observed people just to learn how to write better dialogue.
But guess what? All I ever got was a book that most publishers wouldn't touch with a ten-foot pole!
So, I'd go back to the drawing board. Struggling for hours and hours trying to "think up" the next great story. I tried all sorts of mental training exercises, imagining myself as the main character, and a whole host of other stuff I'm embarrassed by!
I tried to follow those plot outline guides. You know the kind I'm talking about. Pick your character traits, now put your character in this situation. And so on.
No matter what plan I followed or whose advice I took, my books always ended up rejected by publishers for their lack of originality, their lifelessness, and one publisher even called my book "Cookie Cutter!"
Here is what Bonnie Hazlett had to say...
When I first became acquainted with Jim McMullen's writing, I was intrigued with his style. The more I read, the more energized I felt. I wasn't even looking to become a writer--and he made me want to run right out and start composing! I felt like his words pierced something in the core of me and I could somehow now get 'in touch' with who I really am. Jim's writing is more than just 'inspirational' or even 'motivational', it's more like 'soul-spirational'! You just don't want to miss out on this priceless gem...or the opportunity to Awaken What is Within You!!!

Writing A Hit Book Takes A Lot Of Time
To write a hit book, you've gotta really put in a lot of time, right. I mean you've got to dig through months of research on your topic. Spend another few months creating your perfect outline.
Then spend at least 6 more months pouring over draft after draft until at last you have your masterpiece.
W R O N G!
Did you know that Jack Kerouac's Best Selling Book On The Road was written in only 20 days?
Or how about the classic A Christmas Carol? Charles Dickens wrote the entire book in exactly 14 days.
Agatha Christie, the world's best selling novelist is reported to finish most of her books in less than 30 days!
But perhaps the most incredible story is that of Dr. Richard Carlson. He wrote his best selling book Don't Sweat The Small Stuff in about 12 hours – while flying home in an airplane!
Writing a hit book doesn't have to take a long time. As a matter of fact, some of the best books ever written were done in a short period of time.
All you've got to do is awaken the writer within yourself like other writers have done and you too can add your name to the list above.
Panther, was written almost entirely in the Everglades. Tracking the legendary panther in the glades, McMullen has saved both the animal and himself. This is the most powerful wildlife book I've ever read in over ten years.
Cry of the Panther reads like a knowledgeable naturalist's journal. . .and a spiritual transformation that matches two species of soulmates. It is full of swamp lore and glory, of a mucky, mosquito-infested search for the elusive wild cat. It flashes back to a wounded vet's vivid combat memories, many prompted by swampy similarities between the River of Grass and the rice paddies of Vietnam. On another level, it is a tale of obsession. Cry of the Panther's momentary magic is shared with us forever in McMullen's tough, but touching book. Jim's book is a surpassing statement about the great spirit that unites all living creatures.
It's All About The Main Character, Right?
Everyone knows you have to have a Hero that is interesting, that has some sort of "fatal" flaw, that has a love interest, that has a…
STOP ...
Let's be honest here, just you and me.
If writing a hit book were as simple as picking a character, throwing him into a plot line and hitting the "GO" button, we'd all be writing hit books!
Yes, it's important to have a strong main character, but a strong character doesn't sell your book…and it certainly doesn't help you get your book published.
If you don't have something special, something that jumps off the page and grabs a hold of your readers eyeballs like a vice grip, then no character archetype is going to save you.
So, if it's not about time spent writing, or your character and plot…then it has to be about talent, right?
Some men climb mountains because they are there. Jim McMullen began tracking the Florida panther because experts said that they weren't there believing them extinct in their Everglades' home.
The suspense and triumph of the hunt mold Cry of the Panther, an autobiography of one wounded body and mind shared by several residents-the Vietnam combat Marine infected by the parasites of defensiveness, guilt, revulsion and sorrow: the self taught naturalist with the cool of a computer: and the hot-eyed zealot with tenacity of sawgrass, abandoning his Master's degree in English literature to search for the big cat.
Produced by White Wolf Productions, it is an hour-long documentary on the Florida panther, the Florida Everglades, and Unknown species throughout the swamp. It will air sometime in the summer of 2007
Megan Of Pennsylvania Says...
Writing has always been a struggle for me. Decidedly unfun... I think it became that way after years of 'forced' writing in the school system. Whenever I was ever asked to write anything I would groan inwardly. I loathe the blank computer screen staring back at me. How do I write? What do I have to say? What can I possibly tap into?
I have to say that 'Awaken The Writer Within' changed all that for me. For the first time I found a real passion for writing. I saw that it didn't have to be some tedious task. It could be quite glorious - an exercise in passion and creativity. Jim McMullen made me realize that writing was a gift not a chore to shirk off. He showed me that I could paint pictures with words and describe the landscape of my soul.
This book has changed me. Yes, it made me a better writer. But it's also made me a better person. For now, I can fully recognize the beauty of the awakened creative soul.

All Great Books Are Written
By Extremely Talented Authors
This is the greatest lie you can ever tell yourself. While some authors do have a talent for well-written prose, it's certainly not a requirement for having a hit book.
A 13-year-old Jewish girl wrote one of the best selling books of all time. The diary of Anne Frank is an open and revealing look into the thoughts and fears of a child.
I could go on and on with examples, but I think you get the point. It's not about pure talent.
No, there is something more…something you have to awaken within yourself.
You see deep down inside there's something extra. A skill you can't quite put your finger on. Some call it the "X" factor.
The "X" factor is what makes some athletes superstars and others benchwarmers.
The "X" factor puts average actors on the A list and keeps better actors looking for their next commercial.
But most importantly for you, the "X" factor is the difference between another rejection letter or your first royalty check
Like the Florida panther, author Jim McMullen pursues the big cat. Jim is a creature of the swamp. It is a matter of survival for both him and the endangered Florida panther on common ground.
For years, Jim has tracked these elusive beasts through the Everglades with the commitment of a religious enthusiast, and still the word panther is magic to him. He has evoked the word thousands of times. To learn everything possible about the creature-to live and track one-he has covered himself with mud, crawled down swamp trails, and raised a female panther from a cub to a mature predator. Panther. The aura of the cat hangs on McMullen like smoke around a campfire.
Years ago, McMullen began writing journals on his experiences, most of it written in the swamp. In it, his quest for the panther, his life in the Everglades, his search for inner peace and his experiences in Vietnam as a Marine are woven like braided swamp vines.
His journals have been distilled into a critically acclaimed book, Cry of the Panther: Quest of a Species. It immediately became a bestseller.
Jim McMullen is still out in the Everglades.
All of these channels covered the publication of Jim McMullen's book Cry of the Panther with a three to six minute documentary of tracking the endangered panther in the Everglades.

Are You Ready To
Awaken The Writer Within?
When I wrote my best seller Cry Of The Panther, no one thought much of it, except me. Before I wrote "Cry", I studied hundreds of hit books, looking for what they had in common. I discovered that great writers, both past and present, had the "X" factor. They found a way to awaken the writer within and write books that appealed not only to their generation, but also to future generations.
From Mark Twain to Charles Dickens, from William Shakespeare to Edgar Allen Poe.
Each of these authors wrote with a human passion that millions of people could feel as they turned the next page.
This is the passion I poured into Cry Of The Panther. The same passion that has produced hit books for J.K. Rowling, Stephen King, Michael Crichton, and others.
BUT...I have one secret
I've been holding back for many years.
I have cracked the code and discovered a way to show anyone who wants to write a hit book how to tap into the "X" factor and write their own hit book, whether it's fiction or non-fiction.
Revealed: The "X" Factor That Will Have You Writing Your Own Hit Book Faster And Easier Than You Ever Thought Possible
I could bore you with tedious outlines, character charts, and theme construction. But I know those don't work. What works is throwing logic out the window and tapping into that source inside you.
You see, there were 99 reasons why Cry Of The Panther should have failed miserably, but there was 1 reason why it didn't.
I let go of what "should work" and instead let myself go into a place where I wrote with passion, excitement, and direction. From the first sentence I wrote to the last, I knew that Cry Of The Panther was going to be a success…and it was.
Expanded my imagination
Freed me from writers block
Opened my eyes to the incredible story sitting right in front of me
The process I use doesn't involve painful writing exercises, creative mental challenges, or any of that other "stuff" that only serves to fatten the pockets of the so-called writing gurus.
My method, called Awaken The Writer Within, involves looking inside yourself and unleashing the creative force that has been hidden in your soul all these years.
You've known it all along, but you just weren't sure how to tap into it. Some call it the sub-conscious, but it's really the soul – it's what makes you, you!
Once you've tapped into this creative source, your book will be written nearly on autopilot. You'll sit down at your desk and the perfect words will pour onto the page, like a never-ending stream of creative imagination.
